The Dalles team wins twice at state tennis tourney

THE DALLES - Julian Rodriguez and Gunderson Emmett won two consolation tennis matches in the OSAA 2026 Class 4A/3A/2A/1A doubles state tournament May 21-23 in Beaverton.

The Dalles duo lost to Tyler Do and Jacob Peizner of Oregon Episcopal School in the tourney’s first round, 6-3, 6-1. Their Riverhawk teammates, Zack Pothier and Jesus Chavez, also lost in the first round, 6-0, 7-5, to Case Johnston and Clark David of St. Mary’s of Medford.

Rodriguez and Emmett had a bye in the first round of consolations and won their quarterfinal match, 8-6, over Joseph Derksen and Jack Murray of Sisters High. They added an 8-6 semifinal win over Blake Hildebrandt and Jeremiah Jones of LaGrande to earn a spot in the consolation final. Hildebrandt and Jones had beaten Pothier and Chavez in the consolation quarterfinals, 8-0.

Levi Ennis-Haro and Dawson Murphy of Cascade Christian of Medford ended the winning streak of The Dalles’ pair, 6-4, 6-3 in the consolation title match.

In singles, The Dalles junior Dante Kim had a first-round bye at state before losing in round two to Vale High’s Eli Seals, 7-5, 6-2.

OES won the boys team title; Marist Catholic won the girls crown.
