THE DALLES - The Dalles High Riverhawks remained undefeated in OSAA Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference volleyball as they captured a fourth straight win, 3-0, on Oct. 8 at Madras High School.
The Riverhawks (4-0 league, 10-4 overall), guided by third-year Coach Teresa Morris, beat the White Buffaloes (4-2 TVC, 9-12 overall) for the eighth straight time overlapping the last four years. All of the matchups have been by 3-0 scores.
“We have a few minor injuries, so I let everybody take last weekend off to help them recuperate and get well,” said Morris. “They have all really been working hard recently playing in games and competing in practice for six days every week and they just needed some extra rest.”
Led by sophomore outside hitter Jazzy Morris-Holmes (21 kills, five aces, 10 digs) and junior middle blocker Evelyn Rogers (four kills, two blocks), the Riverhawks outscored the White Buffaloes 25-18 in the first set, followed by 25-15, 25-20 wins in a three-set sweep.
Senior outside hitter Camila Beltran (three kills, five digs), senior setter Caitlynn Gatton (four aces, eight digs) and junior libero Edie May (seven aces) also made key contributions to the win.
The No. 7-ranked Riverhawks are in first place in the six-team TVC standings, just ahead of the No. 10-ranked Estacada High Rangers (4-1 TVC, 13-2 overall). The Riverhawks meet the Rangers in a key first place showdown between the top two TVC contenders in a 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 Senior Night contest at The Dalles High School’s Kurtz Gym.
Morris said: “We’re in a good position right now, but we still have to play Estacada twice. … We might have a chance to go undefeated in league play and maybe win the TVC title, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
The Riverhawks are seeking to win their second TVC title, which they last won in 2022. They are seeking to advance to the Class 4A state tournament quarterfinals for a fourth consecutive season. The 16-team playoffs begin Nov. 1.
