THE DALLES — The three-time Tri-Valley Conference (TVC) girls soccer champion The Dalles High Riverhawks (8-0 TVC, 17-1 overall) capped the season with nine players selected for all league awards as voted on by coaches.
Led by TVC coach-of-the-year Colby Tonn, the Riverhawks advanced to the Nov. 15 state championship game versus the Marist High Spartans (17-1-1), who won the title with a 2-0 victory at Liberty High School in Hillsboro. The Dalles concluded its finest season ever by reaching the final for the first time in school history.
The Dalles senior midfielder Natalia Elias concluded her prep soccer career with a first team all-league award, along with other TVC first-team recipients Willow Ziegenhagen and junior twin sisters Lilyana and Arianna Gonzalez.
Sophomore midfielder Bryce Newby and senior midfielder Jaki Negrete both earned second team awards for the Riverhawks. The Dalles juniors Alondra Romero, Yaritza Torres Escobedo and center back Kaiya Doty each were selected for honorable mention awards.
The Dalles’ Tri-Valley champion boys soccer team concluded the season with nine players selected for all league awards. Led by Coaches Jesus Granados and Matthew Dallman, the Riverhawks (8-0 TVC, 15-1-1) advanced to the Nov. 8 state quarterfinals where they lost 2-1 in overtime to the North Marion High Huskies (8-6-3) at Hood River Valley High School.
Five Riverhawk players earned TVC first team awards: senior goalkeeper Marcos Meza, senior midfielder Juan Camarillo, sophomore midfielder Julian Rodriguez, junior midfielder Ivan Santana and senior defender Angel Morales.
Senior defender Daniel Cervantes capped his Riverhawk high school soccer career with a TVC second team award along with junior forward Orlando Heredia and sophomore midfielder Ismael Cervantes, who also received second team awards. The Dalles junior defender Alonso Almos Dominguez earned an honorable mention award.
