Hood River Valley Swim Team Osprey hosted its annual Harvest of Gold Swim Meet, sponsored by ERS / Your Rental and Party Centers last weekend at the Hood River Aquatic Center. Oregon Swimming Official Stan Benson celebrated 40 years of officiating in Oregon Swimming at the meet.
Kudos to swimmers who participated in their first swim meet for the Osprey: Leah Adams, David Hecksel, Phillip Hecksel, Stellar Peil, Avery Walker and Ethan Yoakum, and to event winners Diego Parades (who won the 8 and Under 25-yard freestyle with a time of 18.35), Skyla Hollowell (who won the 10U 200 yard IM with a time of 2:49.53) and to double event winner Isa Arndt (she was first in the 6U 25 yard backstroke with a time of 54.03 and 25 yard freestyle with a time of 48.27).
Many swimmers had multiple swims with improvements in the double digits. Included were Elijah Adams, who dropped 14 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle for 22nd place with a 1:33.97, Izaiah Adams, who dropped 10 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke for a time of 1:45.58, Maya Arndt, who shaved 11 seconds off her 100 yard IM time for a 1:44.38, Amy Elliott, who took off 10 seconds in her 100 yard breaststroke for a time of 1:37.50, Willow Hollowell, who dropped 14 seconds in her 200 IM and 15 seconds off in her 100 IM (1:30.22), Sophia Kaden, took 25 seconds off her 100 freestyle for a time of 1:17.09, Campbell Keller, dropped 25 seconds in her 200 yard freestyle (2:37.55), Faith Ocheskey, dropping 27 seconds off her 200 IM time (2:27.03), Nora Sandoval, took off 17 seconds in her last race of the weekend, the 100 yard breaststroke (1:41.46), Thea Smith, with a 10-second drop in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:41.82), Jack Stehlik, who took 12 seconds off his 50 butterfly (57.27), and Fergie Waag, who dropped 12 seconds in the 100 IM (1:45.45).
The following swimmers also showed improvement in at least one event at this early season meet: Aili Archbald, Lily Clermont, Magnolia Clermont, Juliet Crain, Jessica Galvez, Max Graves, Hayden Jacobson, Kelsey Jacobson, Trudy Sanders, Maria Sandoval, James Schofield, Wyatt Stelma, Wyatt Stewart and Sarah Wang.
Marina Castaneda swam to best times in five events; Miyuki Gerald, Mallory Keller, Seth Millan and Sky Viavoda-Kerr all swam to four best times this past weekend. And swimming to two or three personal bests included Jesse Elliott, Michelle Graves, Sophia Helleberg, Rowan McKenna, Remmie Russo, Leah Sandoval, Lillie Tomlinson, Sarah Wang and Annabelle Webster.
Colin Gerald scored points in two events (25 back and 25 free), and Xavier Peterson and Oliver Schofield swam great 50 freestyles for their only swims at the meet. Nadia Smith had strong top 10 placements in the 400 IM (5:10.76) and 200 butterfly (2:32.47), Courtney Castaneda was right on her best club time in the 200-yard freestyle, Celilo Brun scored points in the 400 IM and showed that she is ready to tackle all her events again after back surgery this past spring, and Jade Smith competed in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing 24th overall.
Next up for the Osprey is the PAC Fall-Invitational at Dishman Community Center in Portland in early November.
