So Samba FC will start in the spring of 2014 as the Gorge’s only semi-pro soccer club. Tryouts for the adult (18 and over) men’s team will be held July 20, 4-7 p.m., and July 21, 9 a.m. to noon at the Wy’east Middle School soccer fields. Sign-ups for the tryouts are free if done by July 19 or $10 if done the day-of.
So Samba FC will be one of the only Brazilian-style soccer clubs in the country and will partner with EC Taubate Brazil, a training program for international players.

Bilingual youth soccer clinic Aug. 8
The Portland Timbers soccer program is hosting a bilingual soccer clinic for Hood River-area players Aug. 8, from 3:30-5 p.m. at Hood River Middle School. The free clinic will be a unique opportunity for young players to work with some of the state’s top coaches through the Somos Timbers youth program. Youth flag football sign-ups are open
A new offering this year by Hood River Community Education, flag football for first- and second-graders is now open to registration. The co-ed league is non-contact and is aimed at providing youngsters with a chance to have fun together and learn the basic rules, formations and skills in of football. Players will meet twice a week and will be divided into teams for games. Registration is $50, players will meet starting Aug. 8 and games will run September through early October.

Youth football signups open
Gorge Tackle Football League: For players grades 3/4 and 5/6, league starts Aug. 12, with registration open now. $100 registration fee includes use of protective equipment. Practices will be twice a week and the season will consist of six games.
Middle School Football: Two Hood River County teams will be formed – one for seventh-graders and one for eighth-graders. Practices start Aug. 19.
