On April 17, the Hood River Men’s Golf Association held its annual flag day golf tournament at the Hood River Country Club course. Players start with a number equal to the course rating plus their handicap. They play until they reach this total and place their flag there. Last flag in wins. Results of the tournament are: 1st, George Smith; 2nd, Gary Sollman; 3rd, Leonard Hickman; 4th, Bill Van Ek; 5th, Doug Hamada. KP’s were won by Bill DeBorde and Tim Wingerd. Tom Godwin won the prize for closest to the cone (a small clock and $20). The next scheduled tournament is May 15 and is a par three tournament. Cost for members is $35, but others may join for a fee of $40.
HRVHS Cheer tryout meeting April 27
There will be an informational meeting Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. in the Hood River Valley High School Library for anyone interested in trying out for cheerleading at HRVHS for the 2016-17 season. Anyone wanting to cheer in the fall and/or winter must attend this meeting with one of their parents in order to be eligible to tryout, including current eighth graders. HRV track athletes sign with colleges
The Hood River Valley High School track team announced recently that the Parkers — that is, Irusta and Kennedy — have both signed to compete in track and field at Pacific Northwest colleges. Irusta, who primarily competes in sprints and in long jump, signed with Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., where he will compete at the Division II level. Kennedy, who primarily competes in pole vault and hurdling events, signed with University of Washington, located in in Seattle, where he will compete at the Division I level.
Boys lacrosse’s Alex Ellifritz signs with Notre Dame de Namur
HRV long stick midfielder Alex Ellifritz has signed to play Division II lacrosse at Notre Dame de Namur — a private school located in Belmont, Calif. Ellifritz has been a three-year varsity starter and a captain for HRV. He plans to study business administration in college.
Payton Rigert signs with University of the Cumberlands
Payton Rigert recently signed to wrestle at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky., where she will compete in the Mid-South Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Rigert wrestles for HRV and was recently named an All-American.
