The pace of the small school track and field season is starting to increase, with multiple meets attracting Gorge teams each week. As a result, the personal bests posted by the athletes are also starting to spike.
Condon High School attracted many of the teams a week ago with its annual invitational. The Trout Lake girls dominated the girls team competition with 124.5 points; host Condon edged South Wasco boys, 69-66. Of note was senior distance runner Grady Greenwood’s distance double of 1 minute, 56.3 seconds in the 800 after a 4:07.16 1500.
Sherman girls: Sophie Hulke (1st, 109-0, discus; 32-1, shot). Sherman boys: Michael Blagg (11.73, 100); Henry Poirier (123-5, discus; 39-10.5 shot).
South Wasco girls: Bailey Udey (4-8, high jump); Macy Bell (4-8, high jump). South Wasco boys: Coy Shirley (1st, javelin, 143-10.5).
Trout Lake girls: Nancy Painter (1st, 13.51, 100); Melody Stock (5:30.51, 1500, 1st); Lupe Medina (53.02, 300 hurdles); 4x100 relay (Medina, Painter, Cora Sharp, Jade Mclean, 54.6 4x100, 1st); Violette Anderson (1st, shot, 32-0.75); Eden Anderson (4-8, high jump). Trout Lake boys: Alex Lopez (4:38.6, 1500); Jayden Kusky (42-0, shot); Sawyer Dean (1st, pole vault).
Earlier in the week on April 9, South Wasco hosted a mid-week affair with five schools. Top girls marks there included: Cora Sharp, Trout Lake, 13.61, 100, and 28.48, 200; Jayda Iverson, South Wasco, 2:35.13, 800; Taylor Payne, Sherman, 2:47.5, 800; Stock, Trout Lake, 5:30.49, 1500; Violette Anderson, 34-5.5 shot and 18.09, 100 hurdles; South Wasco 4x400 relay (Bell, Julie Hull, Udey, Iverson), 4:49.38; Eden Anderson, 14-11.25 long jump; and Sharp, 14-11 long jump.
Top marks at South Wasco for the boys: Kusky, Trout Lake, 42-11.5 shot; Joey Holloway, South Wasco, 133-2.75 discus and 151-3 javelin; and Kayden Woodman, Lyle, 19-00.25 long jump.
