THE DALLES — The Dalles track and field team competed in two meets this past week, including the annual Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays in Portland.
That invitational attracted athletes from 150 schools from as far away as Texas. Five Riverhawk athletes qualified to compete, including junior Evelyn Rogers, who threw a personal best 36 feet, 4.5 inches in the shot put. Senior Tyson Long ran the 1500 meters in a personal best 4 minutes, 8.75 seconds.
Rogers is leading the OSAA Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference in the shot, and she also is ranked No. 4 in league in both the discus and javelin. Long is leading the conference in the 1500, the 3000, and is ranked No. 2 in the 800.
Senior Derek Goulart cleared a season best 6-3.25 in the high jump at the Twilight, and Willow Ziegenhagen and Bryce Newby threw the javelin. Ziegenhagen finished eighth with a best throw of 126-7.25.
The Riverhawks also competed along with Gladstone at a Tri-Valley meet in Molalla on April 22. Junior Patrick Rankin had a good meet, running legs on the Riverhawk 4x100 and 4x400 relays, and winning the 100 and 200 (season best 24.21).
Junior Adam Trosper won the boys discus in a personal best 129-11 and teammate Conner Hajek was second in the shot at 40-3.5. Junior Mason Morehouse cleared a PR 10 feet in the pole vault. Junior Tyler Irving also ran a couple of relay legs and won the 110 hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles. Senior Aiden Erickson won the 1500 in a season best 4:36.15.
Laura Black had a busy day for the Riverhawk girls, winning the pole vault, the 100 and 200 meters and running a leg on the distance medley relay. Also of note on the track for The Dalles’ girls team were the personal best by Gabriella Dominguez Bahena in the 400 (1:07.7) and Abigail Pope’s 2:44.52 400.
