Team of the Week:
Paul Weatherly, +132 (783)
Terry Arthur, +129 (780)
Gordon Sim, +129 (786)
Carl Casey, +114 (768)
Quinton Cox, +109 (709)
Hats off to our Team of the Week bowlers who rolled the most over their averages in last weekâs league action at Hood Riverâs Orchard Lanes. Once again we have a nice mix of bowlers â some new, some household names and all of them on fire.
Leading the parade of stars was Paul Weatherly, who carried his team to a 21-4 thrashing of the powerful Hood River Sports Club trio in the tough Wednesday night Fraternal league. Paul racked up savvy scratch 233 and 213 games on his way to a stellar 627 series that was 132 pins over his average, the most for anyone in league action last week! This marks the second time that Paul has made the Team of the Week in the past month, so it appears he has found the key to success.
Ahhhhhh, thereâs nothing like basking in the limelight for motivation!
Itâs always special to welcome another newcomer to the big five. Terry Arthur sure had things his way in the Tuesday Nite Mixed league, where he blasted a huge scratch 262 game that propelled him to a fine 636 series. That effort put Terry 129 pins over his average for the session. Just how good is that? Well, all-star Gordon Sim, one of the best bowlers in town, put together a prodigious scratch 756 series in the same session, which just happened to also be 129 pins over his average.
The smooth Mr. Sim, with the textbook style, knocked out a lofty 288 game in his big series. He also shot a scratch 704 series in the Thursday afternoon senior Lads & Lassies league. Gordon was the only bowler in town who climbed over the magical scratch 700 series mark last week. It takes a cool, confident and very competent customer to shoot a scratch series over 750. Thatâs a perfect description of Mr. Sim.
Carl Casey is definitely in the zone and heâs no stranger to big numbers. Carl has a long and impressive resume of top scores in this great game. Heâs so quiet and unassuming you hardly know heâs there, but when the dust settles youâll always find Carl in the thick of the battle. Carl grabs the clean-up slot on our fab five after rolling nifty scratch 267 and 235 games on his way to a solid 684 series in the Monday night Industrial league which was 114 pins over his average. This marks the fourth time that the easy going Mr. Casey has made the team of the week this season â the most by anybody in town!
Quinton Cox earns the anchor spot on the team after putting together another good performance in the Wednesday afternoon senior Colts and Fillies league, where he topped his average by 109 pins. Quinton rolled a nice 210 game in his series. This is Quintonâs third appearance on the fab five this season. Heâs clearly been bitten by the bowling bug after sparking his 3 Fingers Deep team to the Industrial league title last season; heâs bowling three leagues this season. Bowling more usually leads to bowling better, and its always more fun to bowl better!
There were several more outstanding performances last week that just missed making the Team of the Week. Leading all women in scoring was all-star Sandy Holmes in the Tuesday Nite Mixed, where she fired a beautiful scratch 652 series that was capped by 246 and 223 games. Sandy, who is one of the best bowlers in town, ended up 106 pins over her average for the outing, just missing making the team of the week by a mere three pins. In the Thursday County league, newcomer Marc Smith also finished up his three game session 106 pins over his average. Marc had a nice scratch 213 game in his set. And, the irrepressible Zach Mohun continues to beat up the sticks. Two weeks ago he was the No. 1 bowler in town. Last week he was 100 pins over his average in the Fraternal after firing solid scratch 231 and 214 games on his way to a fine 616 series. Zach has to be on the short list for most improved bowler in town. Great bowling everybody!
