Local weightlifter places sixth at USA Nationals

Amy Hay competes in Dallas.

2009 HRVHS graduate Amy Hay recently traveled to Dallas, Texas, to compete at the USA Weightlifting National Championships. Hay is the top ranked weightlifter in Oregon and Washington based off of Sinclair Score (pound for pound strength).

This was her fourth National level competition which she qualified for earlier this spring with a 196kg (431.2-pound) total. Her goal was to increase her national ranking from her last national meet. She did just that with a Snatch of 85kg (187 pounds) and a Clean and Jerk of 103kg (227). Both lifts made a combined total of 188kg (414), earning her 6th place in the 69kg (150-pound) weight class. Hay has been training for four years without a coach, and does all of her own programming and critiquing. She trains nine times a week year round.
