Earlier last month, 2009 HRVHS graduate Amy Hay competed at the 2016 USA Weightlifting Nationals/Olympic Trials in Salt Lake City, Utah. In SLC, Hay made four out of six lifts, which was good enough to earn her the bronze medal in the Clean & Jerk category and in the total. She just missed the podium in the Snatch category by a .02 bodyweight tie breaker. She snatched 97 kg (214 lbs) and clean and jerked 117 kg (258 lbs) at a bodyweight of 73 kg (160 lbs). Hay is also part of a women’s team, Catalyst Athletics. With her scores and the scores of her female teammates, they were strong enough to win the National Title, a first for Catalyst Athletics. Although she isn’t yet eligible to make the Olympic team, her performance was good enough to add her into the exclusive group of weightlifters who are athletes sponsored by USA Weightlifting. Next up for Hay is the American Open Championships in December, where she will have the opportunity to break the American Record and be a strong contender for the gold medal. Hay is coached by Greg and Aimee Everett, owners of Catalyst Athletics which is located in Bend.
