HOOD RIVER — West Albany ended Hood River Valley’s 2025 football season, 48-14, in the first round of the OSAA Class 5A state playoffs on Nov. 7 at Henderson Stadium.
The Bulldogs (7-3) were physical all night long and got the ground game going early against the Eagles (8-2). A 30-yard run from Godfrey Conn set up West Albany at the Hood River Valley 12-yard line with 8:03 left in the first quarter.
West Albany used two quarterbacks throughout the night, with Kaiden Scott taking command first. He found Jackson Privratsky for a 12-yard touchdown pass between the Eagle safeties with 6:46 left in the first quarter. The Bulldog point-after was good, and West Albany led 7-0.
Beau Harvery stepped in at quarterback for West Albany and found Privratsky for a 30-yard touchdown pass off a great double move route for a 14-0 lead with 3:01 left in the opening period. Davin Snyder responded quickly for Hood River with a 99-yard kickoff return touchdown with 2:45 left in the quarter. Bodie Steuben’s point-after kick was good, and West Albany led 14-7.
West Albany answered with Harvey’s four-yard rushing touchdown with 11:01 left in the first half.
Snyder had another huge kickoff return with 10:52 left, this time for 48 yards, setting up the Eagles at the West Albany 37-yard line. Steuben found Snyder for a 32-yard completion, setting up first-and-goal for the Eagles at the Bulldog 7-yard line. Stuben faked a jet sweep and handed the ball off to running back Nick Tuttle for a five-yard touchdown with 7:53 left in the first half to pull HRV within 21-14.
But once again, West Albany answered. Privratsky scored on a three-yard run and HRV would get no closer the rest of the game.
West Albany, the No. 3 team from Special District 3, gained 548 yards of total offense and had 22 first downs. The Bulldogs advanced to play at top-ranked Summit in the 5A quarterfinals. The Storm beat Gresham, 57-10.
Hood River was hampered by an injury to senior Bam Layna early in the second quarter. Hood River’s main offensive player at running back this season and its leading tackler from his linebacker spot injured his arm on the short TD run by Harvey. Layna left the game with 11 minutes remaining in the first half and did not return.
The Eagles qualified for the state playoffs a school-record four straight seasons under long-time Coach Caleb Sperry. HRV was co-champions of Special District 1 with Milwaukie and Gresham.
