THE GORGE — Sherman County, the No. 6 seed in the Class 1A six-man football playoffs, won its first-round game, 52-12, over visiting North Lake on Nov. 7 in Moro.
Coach Paul Bish’s Huskies improved to 8-2 with the win, which earned them a quarterfinal matchup Nov. 15 at Eddyville Charter (8-1).
Against North Lake (5-4), Sherman received first-half touchdown runs from Drake Dark and Rhyder Smith, and a 50-yard pick six from Gage Simpson to build an insurmountable lead.
Lyle/Wishram lost its first-round, Class 1A eight-man football game on Nov. 7 vs. North Douglas at Sutherlin High School. Jaycen Marios scored with 6:30 remaining on a 52-yard run to lift North Douglas to a 36-30 win over the Cougars. Lyle/Wishram had tied the game in the fourth quarter on a Jack Thiemann 22-yard run and conversion run.
Thiemann also caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Mason Ramsay to pull the visitors within 16-14 at halftime. Mason Ramsay started the Cougars’ scoring, giving them a 6-0 lead on a 68-yard run in the first quarter.
Lyle ended its season with a 5-5 record.
Top-seeded Dufur High, which had a first-round bye in the eight-man playoffs, will host Perrydale in the quarterfinals on Nov. 14. The eighth-seeded Pirates (8-2) won 22-20 at home against Powder Valley in the first round.
The No. 1 ranked Rangers (9-0) finished the regular season unbeaten, winning the Special District 3 title with a 6-0 record.
