HOOD RIVER – Senior Syl Perrin won the 3,000-meter run and frosh Diyora Khudoidodova won the high jump to lead Hood River Valley’s track and field team at the 19-team Wilsonville Invitational meet April 11.
Perrin raced to a season best 10 minutes, 39.44 seconds to win by 10 seconds in the distance race. Khudoidodova cleared a personal best 5 feet, 2 inches to win the high jump by an inch.
Also for the HRV girls, sophomore Savina Davis was sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:59.53) and then doubled back later in the meet to place second in the 800 in 2:26.14. In the sprints, sophomore Georgiana Williams was sixth in the 100 meters and seventh in the 400 (1:03.48). She joined Davis, Uma Carosella, and Gisele Kingsfogel on the Eagles’ sixth-place 4x400 meter relay (4:25.84).
Wyeth Droege had a busy day for the HRV boys. He placed second in the high jump at 5-10 and was sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.05). Teammate Matt Trickey sprinted to fourth in the 200 meters in a personal best 22.8 and was tenth in the 100 (11.36). Trickey also anchored HRV’s 4x100 relay of Solomon Parson, Jack Schlue and Colin Gerald to a 44.83 clocking.
That Eagle relay team, Wilsonville and Hillsboro are within .10 seconds of each other thus far this season, which could add some competitive spice to the May district meet in the Northwest Oregon Conference (of which all three schools are members). Canby, with two of the top five boys sprinters in the league, figures to have a say in that race, as well.
