OREGON CITY — Senior Sam Knoll placed 10th overall and led the Hood River Valley boys cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Sept. 13 Oregon City XC Invitational.
The Eagles scored 201 team points in the 5,000-meter varsity race. Franklin High of Portland won with 58 points in the meet, which included 22 scoring teams. The Dalles’ boys team finished 11th with 322 points.
Knoll’s time of 16 minutes, six seconds was a 20-second personal best. Victor Coffman and Copeland Louis were each timed in 16:51 (personal bests) and were 27th and 29th for HRV. Joshua Carley was 46th in 17:25, and Ethan Clough was 103rd (19:23) to complete the Eagle team score. Senior Brayden Strong also competed for the Eagles in the varsity race and clocked 19:35.
Senior Tyson Long led The Dalles with his 41st-place finish in 17:16. Noah Preston was 55th (17:38), Luke Sorenson was 68th in 17:54, Lazarus Taylor was 83rd in 18:27, and Asa Waller was 94th in 19:09. Aiden Erickson ran a non-team-scoring 19:17.
The Dalles girls were 13th out of 19 scoring teams with 284 points. Abigail Pope led the Riverhawk girls with her 38th place finish (21:59). Teammate Alessandra Meza was 46th in 22:26, Josie Brace was 72nd in 23:27, Rozlyn Elliott was 75th in 23:31 (personal best), and Kestley Hodges was 85th in 24:13 for the Riverhawk team score. Rokiah Notbohm and Laura Black were 79th and 83rd for The Dalles.
Hood River’s girls team finished 17th with 455 points. Freya Nelson (82nd, 24:07), Piper Johnson (102nd, 25:08), Charlotte Fuller (108th, 25:19), Vivian Faber (119th, 26:18), and Sophia Ransom (124th, 27:17) figured in the Eagles’ team score.
The top local finisher was Trout Lake junior Melody Stock, who was seventh overall in the varsity girls race in 19:51. Trout Lake’s Nehemiah Davis was 101st to lead the Mustang boys. Of note was the effort of Trout Lake seventh grader Stuart Peck, who finished 39th in the varsity high race in 17:07.
