The defending OSAA Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 4 champion Dufur High Rangers girls golf team won their fourth event this season, the six-team Mac-Hi Invitational Tournament April 26 at the Milton-Freewater Golf Course.
The Rangers posted shot 346. Sophomore Tygh Timinsky earned medalist honors with her 72 against a field of 23. It was the sixth individual tourney win for Timinsky, who was followed by senior teammate Molly Cochenour (87), freshman Cadence Young (91), and sophomore Cynthia Medina (96). Sophomore Kaylee Wiles (101) and freshman Piper Murders (104) shot non-counting team scores for Dufur.
Earlier last week, the Rangers competed in the 20-team state preview tourney April 22 at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie, which is the site of the state tournament May 13-14. The Rangers were sixth, shooting 414.
“We’re just preparing to go to compete at the district tournament May 6-7 at Baker and we’ll try to do the best we can there,” said Coach Travis Kane. “Hopefully we’ll qualify for the state tournament for a third straight year and go to Tokatee.”
Timinsky took fifth place individually out of 86 golfers with her score of 81 at the April 22 tourney. Cochenour took ninth with a season best 92, followed by Wiles (119), and Medina (122). Dufur’s boys squad also competed at Milton-Freewater. Junior Klayton Schanno shot 80 and was third out of 26 golfers and senior teammate Jared Infante shot 98.
The Rangers boys also played in the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A 23-team state preview April 25 at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell. Schanno shot 110 and Infante 136.
