WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High School girls cross country team tuned up for this week’s 2025 WIAA District IV meet by finishing second in the Trico League meet Oct. 23 at Vancouver Lake Park.
The Bruins scored 54 team points vs. the 30 scored by team winner La Center. Columbia was led by sophomore Kathryn O’Conner, the second-place finisher behind La Center’s Sasha Pash. O’Conner ran the 5,000-meter race in 20:26; Pash won the race in 19:57.
Masey Kollman, Lilah Zimmerman, Maya Tama, and Eda O’Connor completed the Bruin team score. Kollman’s time of 22:29 was a season-best effort; Eda O’Connor ran a lifetime best of 23:04.
Columbia was third in the boys race with 64 points. La Center won with 25 and Seton Catholic was second with 39. Columbia was led by sophomore Colby Clark, who was seventh overall in a personal best of 18:02. Also contributing to the CHS team score were Luther Thomas (10th), Ethan Hayes (13th), Everett Coyner (18th), and Jack Brooks (20th, season best 18:44).
The Bruins will be competing against 12 other Trico and Evergreen league teams at the Oct. 30 district championship at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland. The 1A girls race is scheduled for 11:10 a.m.; the 1A boys race is set for 12:30 p.m.
The top four scoring teams in the 1A boys and 1A girls district races will qualify for the state championships in Pasco on Nov. 8. The top 28 individual 1A boys and 1A girls also will qualify for state.
The Columbia girls were second in the 2024 meet; they won the district title in 2022. The Bruin boys, third a season ago, last won a district cross country team title in 2019.
