Columbia High School’s track and field team tuned up for another Trico League season at last Friday’s Wildcat Relays in La Center.
The Bruin girls won two of six relays in the seven-team meet. Columbia won the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays and was second in the 4x400. The meet also featured the 4x800, sprint medley relay, and distance medley relay.
There were six field events (not the triple jump) and Columbia had a top five girls finisher in four of them. Sophomore Sara Miller was third in the long jump at 15 feet, 6 inches. Miller was third in last year’s 1A District 4 championship in the long jump, and Tolbert finished third in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Bruin boys’ best relay finish was second in the 800-meter sprint medley. Columbia also was fifth in the 4x200.
In the field, junior Garrett Kock was fifth in with a personal best leap of 17-10 in the long jump. Senior Luke Harrison and sophomore Ezekiel Wilson Ramirez finished fourth and fifth in the discus with personal best throws of 118-1 and 110-1, respectively.
