WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High girls won two events and finished second in another at the annual season-opening Wildcat Relays track and field meet March 21 at LaCenter High School.
The Bruins won the 4x100 meter relay and the 800 meter sprint medley relay in the nine-team meet of 1A Trico and 2A, 3A, 4A Greater St. Helens league schools.
The short relay team of Willow Cohen, Saylor Hauge, Hailey Tolbert, and Sequoia Cohen ran 53.79 seconds to edge RA Long (54.0). Willow Cohen, Amya Shaw, Sara Miller, and Hauge teamed up to win the sprint medley (100,100, 200, 400) in 2:03.37.
Columbia was runner-up to Hockinson in the 4x200 relay, as Willow Cohen, Hauge, Miller and Maya Tama ran 1:58.6. The Bruin distance medley (1200, 400, 800, 1600) finished fourth with the team of Olivia Allen, Damarys Alvarez, Helen Hoskins, and Tama running 14:59.87.
In field events, the Columbia girls went 1-3-6 in the high jump, led by the personal record win by sophomore Samantha Evans, who cleared 5 feet, 1 inch. Bruin senior Hauge was third at 4-8, and Tolbert sixth at 4-4. Junior Sophia Bucher was sixth in the shot put at 26-1.5.
Leading the Columbia boys in field events was junior Ezekiel Wilson Ramirez, who was eighth in the shot put (35-1.5) and discus (97-10). Teammate Thatcher Wallace, a sophomore, finished third in the javelin with a throw of 107-3.
The Bruin relay efforts were paced by the sprint medley team of Ethan and Aidan Hainline, Jordan MacCormack, and Nathan Breedlove. They were seventh in 1:55.39.
Columbia competes at a Trico meet March 26 at Seton Catholic in Vancouver before taking a week off for spring break.
