THE DALLES — The Dalles boys track and field team finished in a tie for 10th overall at the 34-team T Smith Need For Speed invitational April 12 at Sherwood High School.
The Riverhawks scored 31 points and were paced by the pole vault win from Julian Morehouse, the runner-up finish from River McClure in the 300-meter hurdles and the third-place high jump effort from Derek Goulart.
Morehouse cleared a personal best 14 feet, 6 inches, McClure raced to 39.78 second PR in the hurdles, while Goulart jumped 6-1. The Dalles also had team points (top eight places) from Tyson Long, who was fifth in the 800 meters in a personal best 1:59.03 (No. 6 in school history).
McClure is now the No. 1 all-time low hurdler in The Dalles school history with his sub-40 second effort. He eclipsed Jack Miller’s former school best in the event of 40.02 set in 1982.
Morehouse remained in third place on the school’s all-time vault list, as he moved within six inches of older brother Taylor’s No. 2 mark of 15-0.
The Riverhawks also raced to a season best in the 4x400 relay, as Long, Egan and Vincent Ziegenhagen, and Noah Preston ran 3:33.28. That time is No. 2 in the Tri-Valley League rankings through April 13.
Other PRs of note for the Riverhawk boys were David McCracken’s 11.16 100-meter time; Noah Preston’s 52.35 400; and Vincent Ziegenhagen’s 43.44 300 hurdle clocking.
The Riverhawk girls were led by the season best marks of Alaina Casady in the 3000 (10:54.45); Laura Black’s PR in the 400 of 1:03.89; sophomore Olivia Prado’s horizon-jump double of 15-8.75 (long jump) and 32-1.5 (triple jump); and Willow Ziegenhagen’s 4-8 high jump and 101-10 javelin throw.
The Dalles’ girls relay teams were near to, or bettered season bests. The 4x100 team of Marie-Louise McCracken, Ebany Mondragon, Sydney Newby, and Willow Ziegenhagen ran 53.9. The 4x400 team of Black, Ziegenhagen, Mondragon, and Ember Kahler ran a season-best 4:28.64.
Riverhawks open league meet schedule at home
The Dalles sophomore jumper Olivia Prado continued her breakout track and field season with personal bests in the long and triple jumps at the Riverhawks’ home meet April 9 at the Wahtonka track.
Prado won the long jump at 16 feet, 7 inches and was second in the triple (32-1.5) in the meet against Tri-Valley League foes Estacada and Crook County.
The Dalles’ girls also received wins from Willow Ziegenhagen in the high jump at 4-8 and javelin at 100-3; and Rowena Benjamin in the 100-meter hurdles (17.56).
Also of note for the Riverhawks were the two PRs from Marie-Louise McCracken in the 100 (13.67) and 200 (28.33); Alaina Casady’s PR in the 800 of 2:33.48; Lillen Vaught’s 55.38 300 hurdle effort; and Kestley Hodges’ 99-9 PR in the javelin.
On the boys side, Julian Morehouse won the pole vault at 14-0; Derek Goulart won the high jump at a season best 6-2; David McCracken won the 100 in 11.37; River McClure won the 300 hurdles (40.51); Vincent Ziegenhagen was third in the javelin with a season best 138-9 (and ran 43.86 in the 300 hurdles); Egan Ziegenhagen added a PR in the javelin at 130-6 and a PR in the 400 (55.02); and sophomore Connor Hajek threw a PR 39-1.5 in the shot put.
