The Dalles High Riverhawks were on the verge of getting a huge win in the opening contest of their Intermountain Conference Class 5A baseball schedule April 15 versus visiting Pendleton High.
One week after having 76 points scored against them, The Dalles High Riverhawks football team turned things around and scored 76 points of its own to get its first win this season.
At halftime of their Class 5A season-opening non-league game versus the Forest Grove Vikings, The Dalles High Riverhawks football team had a good chance of getting a win, while trailing just 6-0. Unfortunately for The Dalles, the difference between the second half and the first half was like the difference between night and day.
It has been a fantastic summer for the Hattenhauer Distributing sponsored Columbia Gorge Hustlers American Legion baseball team. The Hustlers (18-9) had a fabulous week, winning five straight, capped by an 8-0 shutout over Westview Saturday at Westview High School in Portland.
The Ridgeview Ravens seemed like an ideal opponent for The Dalles High in the Intermountain Conference District baseball quarterfinals. The Dalles (3-7 IMC, 3-14 overall) beat Ridgeview (2-8 IMC, 3-14) twice in the regular season by the scores of 13-8 and 12-2 and they earned the IMC’s fourth seed and a home game against the fifth-seeded Ravens.
It was a learning experience for the young The Dalles High Riverhawks baseball team in an Intermountain Conference three-game series versus the highly regarded Pendleton Buckaroos last week.
It seems hard to believe, but it has been nearly two years since The Dalles High Riverhawks baseball team has played a game. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season was canceled and the Riverhawks last played in May of 2019.
For several, if not all the members of The Dalles Little league 12U All-Stars, this is their last year to make it past districts, state, regionals and to Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Sam Shaver knows every player has even more of a sense of urgency.
Several of the majors-division players were playing in their final Little League baseball game. Pitchers Riley Brock and Luciano Alvarado made sure to make it a memorable one.
