Tuesday’s candidate forum kicked off the 2017 Special Districts Election season with a lively, though fireworks-free discussion among 16 of the 18 total candidates running for Port of Hood River Commission and Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation Board.
Inspired to fix a broken boat ramp at Pine Hollow Reservoir, a group of motivated South Wasco County citizens want to form a non-taxing parks and recreation district. At Monday’s Wasco County Board of Commissioners meeting, they got a consensus to move forward.
The question of how Hood River County will solve its ball field shortage is still up in the air as the Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District continues to search for viable parcels that could be home to new public recreation facilities.
The Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District is looking to add another spur to the Indian Creek Trail network with the hopes of improving access to those who live around the Pacific Avenue area of the Heights.
Although it’s not exactly the route they were looking for, the Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District has applied to the City of Hood River Planning Department to extend a portion of the Indian Creek Trail that lies behind the Columbia Gorge Community College Indian Creek campus.
