The Wasco County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is hosting its 8th Annual Blanket Drive today, Saturday, Jan. 9, at the former Chronicle building at Third and Federal in downtown The Dalles from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Yeti and Squatch in the Winter Wonderland of Oregon” will be read by Richard Hallman at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Klindt’s Booksellers in The Dalles.

When JC Penney shuttered its doors in downtown The Dalles two years ago, the silence was palpable.

The 22,000-square-foot space drew thousands and was known to keep its parking lot full, even on Sundays. Its closure was even postponed for several weeks in the summer of 2017 due to its popularity, with the retailer sending additional goods from other closing stores to be marketed in The Dalles.

The silence is over.

Skyline Hospital will be collecting canned and dry goods Nov. 7-18, with all items benefiting the local food bank. Non-perishable donations can be dropped off in the main lobby of the hospital, located at 211 Skyline Drive in White Salmon.

To the editor: While attending The Dalles Rodeo, I wore my favorite The Dalles Lion’s Club baseball cap. I have many hats, but this one I will choose before even my University of Oregon hat. Sometime after the National Anthem, I noticed my hat was missing. I desperately retraced my steps but could not find it. I checked on the way out at the gate for any lost and found items that may include my lost white cap with the lion’s logo. No luck.
