While new markets have yet to open up, Jim Winterbottom, district manager of The Dalles Disposal/Hood River Garbage, continues to urge residents to continue to recycle as usual, even though comingled materials are still being landfilled.

Hood River City Council is evaluating the need for an updated curbside garbage, recycling and composting program. Citizens have cited concerns with the current system in regards to nuisance (cans blowing over, lids flying off), worker safety (residents and workers lifting heavy cans) and interest in expanded recycling services (greater access to recycling, and/or curbside compost collection).

EUGENE (AP) — Tens of thousands of Eugene and Springfield residents routinely rinse and set aside non-deposit wine, juice and other bottles and jars, then put them out for curbside recycling in specially marked boxes.

Curbside compost collection could be available to interested White Salmon residents as early as next month under an agreement being negotiated between the City of White Salmon and a composting service currently located in The Dalles.
