Hood River Valley’s girls basketball team began its initial season in the Northwest Oregon Conference on Dec. 14 with a loss against unbeaten Canby, 63-44.
The second-ranked Cougars were unbeaten in their first seven games — with the win over HRV their fifth in a row.

Looks like the South Wasco County Redsides are finding their stride right in a nick of time. The senior trio of Peggy Espeland, Roxanne O’Neal and Molly Foreaker combined for 12 of the team’s 16 fourth-quarter points, as the Lady Redsides erased a 20-11 halftime deficit by outscoring Ione 30-15 in the final 16 minutes for a 41-35 comeback win on senior night Friday in Maupin.

With two games left, TDW (11-12 overall, 2-8 league) hosts No. 1 Pendleton (20-4, 9-1) Tuesday, and then caps the regular season on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Hood River (13-8, 3-7). Still with a No. 13 rank, the Eagle Indians need to stay within the top-15 to host a state playoff contest in the last half of May.
