It has become obvious to me that my opponent, Susan Harris, and her supporters, are willing to say almost anything to try and get her elected. Remember, people will say a lot of things but that does not mean they speak the truth. Besides taking my lawn signs or threatening businesses who display my signs, they continue to allege that this town is divided and needs to be healed.
Prior to this election, this town was more together than it had been for many years. Young business owners have been getting involved in Main Street and opening businesses downtown. The opponents have even gone so far as to describe myself and Taner Elliott as part of a “good old boy” system. Although I grew up in The Dalles and followed its progress over the years, I have no clue who they think the “good old boys” are. Taner is in his 30s. Those statements are just falsehoods made to stir things up and it makes me sad they feel they have to resort to this.
Anyone who has been paying close attention over the past four years, knows that the city council and myself have only had one focus, that is to make The Dalles stronger and better, to open up city government and to insist on accountability. No other agenda.
Gary Rains’ editorial explaining the truth about how Rapoza and Michael Leash did not have adequate financing to go forward with the Granada project, hopefully puts that issue to rest.
Chip Wood is a person who feels he can say anything he wants about the termination of Nolan Young’s contract because he knows neither I nor city council members are free to discuss the particulars. Remember, Mr. Wood lost his bid for county commissioner because his words did not stand up to scrutiny.
Please do not let people stop the wonderful progress we have been making. There are things that need to be completed in the next two years. Keep Taner Elliott and let me finish what I started.
