I wanted to take the time to personally thank Clock Tower Ales, Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Old St. Peter’s Landmark, and KODL Radio Station for supporting The Society of the Honor Guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (SHGTUS) Centennial Committee during the National Salute on 11 November 2016.
They joined organizations from 16 states that rang bells or held events on Veterans Day helping Americans to pause, remember, and show our deep respect for our Unknown Soldiers buried in the plaza of the Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery.

AmeriTies essential
To the editor:
AmeriTies is an essential company and employer here in The Dalles. The rail tie treatment facility has been operating here since 1922.
Both its employees and retirees have been part of this community for nearly a century. Many of these folks are close friends and neighbors to each of us. AmeriTies provides good-paying jobs that our community needs.
I have neither seen nor heard evidence that they are running anything but a clean operation that complies with health and safety rules.
AmeriTies is taking steps to address odor and other issues that concern residents in our community. This company has a long track record here in The Dalles and deserves our support.
