The Dalles — Ready to dig
To the editor:
If you are like me, waiting for the ground to dry out enough to turn over that first spade full of soil, you too are ready to g-a-r-d-e-n.
Whether you are planning a vegetable patch or the biggest, brightest flower beds ever, our Wasco County Master Gardeners are ready to meet your planting needs.
Back in January with their feet in the muck, their heads in the wind’s teeth, and their arms reaching up toward the sun these intrepid souls left their warm, cozy homes and began planting at the NORCOR greenhouse. Along with the fine work of juvenille inmates, thousands of plantlings are in the works for the 2014 Spring Fair.
Continuing a local tradition, high quality flower and vegetable plants will be ready to go at 9 a.m. on the Saturday before Mother’s Day.
The Wasco County Master Gardener/NORCOR Spring Fair will be held again in our City Park on Saturday, May 10.
Please come down and support these folk who have provided our community with The DIG public garden, the educational greenhouse program within the NORCOR umbrella, and the annual rose-pruning clinic at the Sorosis Park rose garden.
You will find superior locally grown flower and vegetable plants.
You will also find those incredibly knowledgable Master Gardeners (who have been practicing their avocation for years) to answer your gardening questions.
You will also find some of us newbies to help you carry your purchases to you car!
Don’t forget to bring your mom.
