Dallesport Native in peril
To the editor:
A former resident of The Dalles, Dan Kramer, now living in Key West, Fla., suffered an on-the-job accident on April 4, a fall of 20 feet while trimming a coconut palm. He has worked for 26 years as a licensed arborist. Dan is in serious condition at the Ryder Trauma Center University of Miami Hospital in Miami, Fla. Dan suffered numerous fractures and remains in a coma.
Dan is the son of Dennis and Demetra Kramer of The Dalles and the brother of Kevin Kramer, a teacher and coach at The Dalles Wahtonka High School. He has two sisters, Rachel Kramer and Susan Kramer-Field, living in Montana and the Portland area respectively.
Dan Kramer, an outstanding wrestler, graduated from The Dalles High in 1974, and attended Oregon State University and Boise State University, where he placed fourth in the Big Sky Wrestling Championships. He coached an elite junior soccer team to a Florida state title. He continues to work with the youth of his community.
Dan’s wife, Karem, and their two you children, ages 8 and 10, are staying in housing near the trauma center during Dan’s hospitalization. Dan’s oldest daughter resides in the Seattle area. A fund has been established to assist the family of Dan Kramer. Contributions can be made at The Dalles branch of Bank of America in care of Kevin Kramer.
