As the friend of Wasco County employees, I felt I needed to express some concerns regarding the upcoming election. I have seen several letters to the editor endorsing the incumbents of the county commission; even the Chronicle’s editorial has supported both Rod Runyon and Scott Hege.
I would urge everyone to go out and talk to a county employee. Speak to the folks that have to work under the leadership of these two men. I’m sure you will be surprised.
Since Rod Runyon and Scott Hege have been on the commission, the work environment has suffered. County workers’ morale has never been lower. The employees I have spoken to feel unappreciated and undervalued.
This commission’s leadership has been one of distrust and “smoke and mirrors.” The employees feel disrespected. Gone is the feeling that an employee can “work their way to the top” in this county.
Since the sitting commission has come to power, the atmosphere has been hostile and begrudged. These commissioners are so focused on “customer service” (making the voters happy) that laws and regulations have on occasion been “bent” or simply “overlooked.”
Is this the Wasco County we want? One where it’s not equality for all, but a “who you know” leadership?
Scott Hege ran last on a campaign of Jobs for Wasco County. I would love for Mr. Hege to provide evidence of these new jobs he has created for Wasco County.
