Wy’East Fire and EMS Association recently held an Open House/Taco Feed on March 3. This date was chosen because the Pine Grove Fire Department used to hold an auction on the first Saturday of March every year.
The auction was held for 52 years but was finally discontinued due to the enormous amount of time and set up involved, including the many volunteers firemen and families it took to put on, writes Debra Laraway. “The Wy’East Fire District felt something should be held this year to keep neighbors and families familiar with the fire department and its services.”
The volunteers cooked and prepared free tacos for about 70 people. There were drinks available and a raffle item that had been donated was drawn for after dinner. The raffle monies raised will go towards special equipment used in the fire district.” Laraway thanked those who attended, and she looks forward to this event next year.
“The Pine Grove Fire Station held a food/fellowship reception for the wife, families and firefighter friends of Dean Kinne. Dean passed away Feb. 16 and will be missed for his love and commitment to the fire department both in Odell and Pine Grove for 38 years.
“Dean also felt that EMS services are a vital part of the community and Dean served the fire department as an EMS Intermediate. He also supported and encouraged many of the volunteers that wanted to be in the EMS portion along with the fire department training. Our hearts go out to Dean’s wife Donna, and his many family members Dean left behind.”
