John Clark of Hood River City Public Works fills a vial with water Friday to test chlorine levels in the newly-installed water main under Sherman Street between 9th and Sixth Streets. Clark placed samples of water in a chemical reader to monitor chlorine levels as water is pushed uphill through the line. The fountain goes into the tub to avoid splashing passersby. When the chlorine level reached correct levels, the line was capped.

As the City of Hood River continues its water main upgrades in areas near downtown, look for traffic delays starting April 9 in these areas:
The intersections of Hazel Avenue and East Hazel and East Eugene streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 9-11 and closed full-time April 12-20.
From April 30 to May 1, it will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The city and Crestline Construction will be installing a water pressure regulating vault at this location. Access to the east side of town will be through East Second Street at Sherman Avenue only during the above times.
Serpentine will be closed from Hazel to Sherman/Sixth streets from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 9-13. Serpentine serves as a connector from downtown to the Heights; use Ninth and (if open) Seventh streets as detours.
The city and Beam Excavating will be installing a sanitary sewer in Serpentine during this project time. Traffic on Sherman and Sixth streets may experience delays at times while work is occurring in the Sherman and Sixth intersection.
Look for flaggers in place during intersection work.
