HOOD RIVER — Treebird Market expanded their offerings with the acquisition of Fish People Hood River on Oct. 1, the company has announced.
Fish People has ceased operations, and Treebird will continue to supply sustainable seafood in the Gorge, with fresh products coming in several times a week, according to a press release.
“This has all moved very fast,” said Treebird co-owner Michael Kelly. “We are excited to have taken over the lease downtown and hired the local Fish People team to continue operations of the seafood counter running downtown.
“Longer term, we hope to integrate more seafood into our current store and expand grab-and-go food options for downtown Hood River,” he said.
“Fish People has built a supply chain of seafood over the last 10 years known for the ethics, sustainability, quality, and abundance of our region,” said a Treebird press release. “This made the decision for Treebird to acquire their local store easier as this fits right in with the mission of Treebird to supply fresh regional food to the Gorge and keep the Fish People supply chain in place."

Treebird has added a few frozen seafood items to its current store at 106 Highway 35 and will work to add more grab-and-go lunch items, drinks, snacks and other staples downtown at 13 Oak St. over the coming months.
Both locations will continue running as is, with some changes in selection.
“Treebird Market is 100% locally owned and operated and is actively working on finding a larger space to be able to have a more robust selection including a full service meat and seafood counter, fresh produce featuring the best of our region and beyond, bulk foods, deli, and more all under one roof,” said the press release.
