SHERMAN CO. — The second year of the free Seed to Supper gardening course was held this spring at two locations in Sherman County. Hosted by Sherman Extension and the Sherman County Senior Center, the Thursday evening classes were held March and April once a week in Wasco, and Monday morning classes were held April and May once a week in Grass Valley. A total of 11 adults participated in the free six-week gardening series, aimed at older adult, lower income, and/or beginner gardeners.
During the course, participants received a free course book, a collection of cool-season direct sow seeds, had access to herb and warm-season crop seeds, a graduation certificate and a small bag of all-purpose organic fertilizer.
At the end of the course, participants 100% agreed on the following statements: “This course was a good way for me to learn the basics of vegetable gardening,” and “This course has given me new gardening information and knowledge that I can put to use.”
Class members all commented favorably on the free Seed to Supper course book they received, stating that it was excellent and easy to follow, and will be extremely helpful in the future. Participants in the classes especially enjoyed the group of people and sharing information and experiences with each other. Comments included, “I was happy to learn some tips for local gardening,” and “Yes, I learned new things to try and lots of good information.”
