Hood River Police, Aug. 18 - 24
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), DUII (four), hit and run (two), reckless driving (two), restraining order violation (one), trespass (two).
Notable incidents
Four DUII arrests. In one incident, a 19-year-old driver was arrested on charge of driving under the influence of marijuana and possession of marijuana by consumption while driving.
Two trespass arrests. In one incident, a non-resident person was arrested on charge of trespass, after being found on private property and reported attempting to enter a house on the property.
Two hit-and-run arrests. In one incident, officers cited a local juvenile for hit and run, reckless driving and criminal mischief. They were also cited for driving without an operator’s license.
Officers responded to one non-injury vehicle crash on I-84 westbound near milepost 61.5.
Officers seized a small bag of suspected methamphetamine, found by a Walmart employee, for destruction.
Officers took a report of fraudulent use of a credit card.

The Dalles Police, Aug. 23 - 30
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Burglary (one), detainer (two), disorderly conduct (one), domestic harassment (one), domestic strangulation (one), false information (one), improper use of 911 (one), probation violation (one), restraining order violation (one), theft (two), warrant (two).
Notable incidents
One vandalism report. Damaged vehicle on Second Street.
Fifteen animal calls. Dogs at large, dog welfare checks, alleged animal abuse, ongoing issue with vehicles hitting deer on 10th Street. In one incident, an officer was unable to located a three-legged dog, last seen westbound on 12th.
Forty-one mental health calls.
A fraudulent $20 bill was passed to a Sixth-Street business and turned in.
A person was arrested for improper use of 911 after placing 17 emergency calls in one day, none leading to actual emergencies.
Five hit-and-run reports. A bumper was dented on Lone Pine Drive. In two separate incidents, a witness noted drivers crashing into their neighbor’s vehicles on Tenth. In a third incident, the reporting party T-boned another vehicle Trevitt and West Sixth, and the T-boned vehicle left.
In one hit-and-run, someone hit an alley garage at W. 13th and Trevitt, and the “whole wall” collapsed, needing a complete rebuild.
Eight theft reports. Shoplifting (three), walk-in report, items from Sixth Street location, bike. In one incident, stores on Second Street reported a person shoplifting. They were located in possession of the item and arrested for theft III. Separately, someone allegedly broke into an RV and stole items, broke the ignition lock on a pickup, and “pillaged through” stuff at a Second Street property.
TWo vehicle crashes. Two vehicles crashed at the Second Street and Brewery Grade overpass intersection. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue responded. Separately, one vehicle allegedly rear-ended another on Eight and Court Street. Officers arrested both subjects arrested on several charges.
A missing person was reported on August 27, and found deceased near Ninth Street.
An assault report on Nineteenth Street.
A reported of $1,289 fraudulently removed from a local’s bank account.
A person who was arrested and lodged at NORCOR for disorderly conduct and false information to a police officer, was also cited for allegedly violating city ordinance 5.08.060 by defecating on the grass near the church at E. Fifth and Court streets.
A person was arrested for burglary, theft and domestic harassment on Second Street August 28.
After shoplifting two monster energy drinks, a person fled on Kelly Avenue. Police detained the person after a food pursuit, trespassed them and returned the unopened drink to the store. The person also had five warrants. No arrest was logged.
Wasco County Sheriff, Aug. 23 - 29
Notable incidents
Deputies conducted 31 vehicle stops.
Five thefts logged. Bakeoven Market Road, Burnham Avenue, Center Street, S. County Road, N. Lake View Road.
Two mental health calls.
Four alleged shots logged. Highway 216 (two logs), E. Wapinita, Dodson Road.

Two vehicle crashes logged. I-84 westbound, Highway 197.

Oregon State Police, Aug. 23 - 30
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (one), fail to report as a sex offender (one), fail to drive within lane (one), tampering with physical evidence (one), warrant (two).
Notable incidents
A trooper was dispatched to a theft in The Dalles, and forwarded the information to local police.
A crash. A black Buick Enclave rear-ended an eastbound silver Chevrolet Silverado towing a white cargo trailer on I-84 near milepost 93 August 23. The white cargo trailer sustained no obvious damage, but the black Buick sustained heavy damage and the driver was cited and transported to by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. Both vehicles towed.
A motorhome driving on the rims of its deflated back tire, and striking sparks from the pavement, turned into the Chevron at West Sixth and Ash, The Dalles. It’s black water valve broke and water spilled on the street. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue responded to hose it down.
Four non-injury crashes. A gold Chevrolet Malibu changed lanes in front of a westbound brown Chevrolet Silverado on I-84, causing the Silverado to rear-end it. Both were driveable; one driver was cited. Separately, a gray Honda crashed into an embankment on I-84 near milepost 69 westbound, and was reported as abandoned. The registered owner was located, and stated they swerved to avoid a deer and had no phone along. In a third incident, a black Subaru Impreza crashed on I-85 after the driver tried to avoid a garbage can or bag near milepost 65 westbound. The car sideswiped the concrete median at about 70 mph, but didn’t damage it. In a fourth incident, a northbound vehicle was confused by road signage at the Highway 97 intersection. They left the roadway and hit the sign which had confused them, damaging their commercial vehicle, which needed a tow. ODOT responded to the damaged sign and the driver was cited.
A white SUV was stopped on I-84 for driving erratically, varying speeds, slamming on brakes, pulling onto and off the shoulder and nearly causing several crashes. After an investigation, the driver was cited and released for DUII, then lodged at NORCOR for tampering with evidence.
A trooper stopped a white Ford for speeding and found the driver was returning from a successful deer hunt in California. Unfortunately, they had not just the meat, but also the deer head, brain included. It’s unlawful to bring brain matter or sopinal matter from a Cervid from any other state or province into Oregon. The cooperative hunter met a Fish and Wildlife trooper in Biggs Junction and got a citation. The deer head was seized for destruction by ODFW.
