Hood River Police, Nov. 26 - Dec. 2
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (two), driving while suspended (one), theft (two), trespass (two), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
A hit and run of a parked vehicle was reported.
Four theft reports. Bicycle, shoplifting (two incidents), and a snow blower from the front porch of a residence.
Two DUII arrests. In one incident, a resident was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Two trespass arrests. In one incident, a transient person was cited and released for trespassing on ODOT property.
Two unattended death reports, both occurring at care facilities.
Officers took a report of burglary at Juanitas Marketa.
One fraud report was taken.
Officers responded to the Safeway parking lot regarding a child left unattended in a car. The mother of the child was cited for an ordinance violation: Leaving a child in a confined vehicle for more than 15 minutes.
Officers transported an adult person to Unity Center for Behavioral Health, after the individual was placed on a director’s hold by Mid-Columbia Center for Living.
The Dalles Police, Nov. 30 - Dec. 8
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Burglary (one), detainer (two), DUII (one), menacing (one), theft (one), trespass (six), violation of release agreement (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Two hit and run reports. In one incident, a silver or white SUV struck a retaining wall on Mt. Hood Street, stopped, backed up and sped off, according to the reporting party. In another, a reporting party stated that a white pickup truck “came barreling up” and struck their vehicle on Mt. Hood Street. The reporting party attempted to follow the white pickup, which escaped and was not located.
One arrest for menacing. A local person was arrested and lodged at NORCOR for menacing another individual with a knife at a Third Street location.
Officers responded to investigate an unattended death.
Fifteen mental health calls. In one incident, an individual was taken to a local hospital on a police officers’ hold for mental health.
Nine theft reports. Credit cards and purse, identity theft (two incidents), three propane tanks from a woodshed on Sixth, Exotics Bionic Power Stroking Masturbator, firearm; pallets, barrel and totes from store; Apple watch.
A burglary was reported on 13th Street on Dec. 7. A person chasing another “guy in a neon green jacket,” zigzag down 10th, was called in. A drone was called out. Officers checking a residence located the suspect and they were arrested for multiple charges.
Nineteen animal calls. Barking dogs, aggressive dogs, dogs at large, missing dogs, civil dispute over dog.
A case number was taken for a vandalized windshield.
Wasco County Sheriff, Nov. 30 - Dec. 8
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault on law enforcement (one), disorderly conduct (one), mischief (one), resisting arrest (one), trespass (one).
Notable incidents
Three vehicle crash reports. In one incident, a Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed near an icy bridge on State Road / Dry Creek Road. The driver made it home in the damaged vehicle. A stop sign at State Road signage is “obliterated,” according to logs. In another incident, a single vehicle crashed head down into the Jersey barrier near Highway 30 / Highway 197. It was towed, and the driver received a citation.
Six animal calls. In one incident, a caller stated they were missing a chicken, and suspected a local dog, based on prior experience. In another, a cow was reported in Ross Road / Wamic Market Road. Also road-killed deer (three incidents), dogs at large.
Various trash items including tires, radiator, oil jug and a dresser were found in the creek and on hillsides near Proctor Road / Hood River Road.
Oregon State Police, Dec. 1 - 8
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (six), failure to perform duties of a driver in accident with property damage (one), driving while suspended or revoked (two), reckless driving (two), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Six non-injury crashes recorded. Three involved loss of control on ice. In one incident, a pickup towing a fifth-wheel down I-84 lost control on ice near milepost 129 eastbound and struck an exit sign. The truck had major damage but was still drivable. Information was pushed to ODOT for the damage of state property.
Two more non-injury crash reports involved slushy snow; in one incident, a driver on I-84 near milepost 53 lost control due to poor weather conditions. The road was partly covered in snow and slush. The vehicle sustained damage after striking a concrete barrier. In another incident, a white Chevy and Uhaul trailer, westbound on I-84 near milepost 59.5, lost control on slushy snow and skidded along the guardrail, doing minor damage. Without four-wheel drive, the Arizona vehicle was unable to back up in the snow to get free, and was towed. ODOT was contacted to repair the guardrail.
In another non-injury crash, a 58-year-old Gresham resident hydroplaned on I-85, while driving too fast for conditions. The westbound 1997 Mercedes crashed into the median, then the guardrail before coming to rest facing eastbound. Hood River County units arrested the driver for several warrants and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The vehicle was towed.
Three injury crash reports. In one incident, troopers responded to a four-vehicle collision on I-84, near milepost 56 eastbound, on Dec. 4. One of the drivers involved displayed several indicators of impairment and admitted to consuming alcohol. They were transported by ambulance to an area hospital for minor injuries. In another incident, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash near milepost 73 on I-84 eastbound. A black Toyota Tacoma lost control due to wet conditions and crashed into a rock wall on the shoulder of the road. The driver had no visible injuries but was transported to an area hospital. The vehicle was towed.
Two hit and run reports. In one incident, a trooper was flagged down to a crash on Highway 281 near milepost 2 southbound. The driver fled the scene and witnesses did not have a description; the trooper was unable to locate them. There were open containers of alcohol in the totaled vehicle. A phone utility box had been damaged. In another, ODOT reported damage to a guardrail which had a license plate tuck in the post. The driver was contacted and said a minor crash took place in the snow on Dec. 1.
Five DUII arrests. In one incident, a trooper was clearing a traffic stop on I-84 when a white GMC nearly sideswiped the trooper’s vehicle while he was in it. The vehicle then nearly stopped in the lane. The driver advised they were sleeping and thankful to be stopped. The driver advised once the emergency lights came on they had no idea where they were. They were cited for Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering Another Person, Fail to Drive Within Lane, and Operating with Nonstandard lighting.
Troopers responded to a report of a passenger on a bus smoking meth near Chenowith Loop. The passenger, who gave a false name, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. They eventually provided their correct name and were found to have a felony warrant out of Washington. The passenger was arrested for disorderly conducted, giving false information, and the warrant, and lodged without incident.
A dark blue Jeep was stopped for speeding at 78 in a 65 mph zone. The driver and the passenger were nervous and provided conflicting information about their travel. They consented to a search of the vehicle. A loaded revolver, money, and a backpack suspected to contain drugs were found. The passenger was cited for Unlawful Possession and Possession of Weapon by Felon. A search warrant has been applied to search the backpack.
