Charges — Hood River, Aug. 31 to Sept. 5: Driving suspended or uninsured (two), DUII (four), theft (two), trespass (one), warrant (three). In Hood River County, August: Assault (one), disorderly conduct (one), driving suspended (two), DUII (10), harassment (one), hit and run (one), kidnapping (one), mischief (one), reckless driving (two), theft (one), unlawful entry into vehicle (one), weapons (one), warrant (three). Oregon State police, last week: driving suspended (two), DUII (four), reckless driving (one), reckless endangering (one), firearms (one), warrant (one).
Wasco and The Dalles don’t log arrests but did log eight warrant-related calls.
DUIIs — Hood River deputies made 10 DUII arrests this August, including a person arrested in Cascade Locks for DUII, failure to drive in lane and felon in possession of a weapon. Aug. 23, a jetski fell off a trailer on Country Club Road, which led to the driver’s arrested for DUII, hit and run, reckless driving.
Stats — In Hood River county in August, a log of domestic problems, another of assault, one person died by suicide. Last week, The Dalles made eight logs of domestics, two of suicide.
August thefts — Hood River deputies logged 14: Two separate mail thefts near Odell and Lippman Road, vehicle missing from Summit Drive, arrest for theft at Gorges Beer Co., theft from vehicles in Tamanwas falls lot and Pacific Crest Trailhead, credit card opened with someone else’s social security number, theft at business (three), Cascade Locks Marina, theft of services, stolen golf cart in Port of Cascade Locks.
Deaths — Unattended deaths in Cascade Locks were reported last month. On Sept. 6, death on Pomona Street, and deaths on Chenowith Street Sept. 7 and Dry Creek Sept. 10.
Crashes — Eight non-injury crashes logged in Hood River County last month. Two cars at Highway 35 and Aubert Drive; Cascade Locks (two); Hood River (two), Parkdale, milepost 65 on I-84 eastbound, Viento Park. Last week, The Dalles police logged seven crashes, five hit-and-runs. Wasco County logged three.
Injury traffic crash — in Hood River on Sept. 5, two vehicles at May and 22nd crashed; one driver transported to a hospital.
Seven search and rescues — Those reported: Aug. 2, a 19-year-old fell while climbing a rock face at Pencil Falls, injuring an ankle; Aug. 8, Tamanawas Falls; Aug. 16, overdue hiker on Viento Trail; Aug. 21, injured hiker on Eagle Creek; Aug. 24, retrieved two exhausted and inexperienced hikers from Trail 435; Aug. 28, two lost cyclists in the 1710 road system.
Also reported, a search-and-rescue call at the Wasco and Jefferson county line Sept. 8, with a missing person report Sept. 9.
Forged — Aug. 15, someone used forged currency at Brigham Fish Market.
Holds — Hood River deputies placed a person on a mental health hold Aug. 16. Last week, a Hood River person was taken to a hospital such a hold.
Carjacking — Aug. 19, an attempted vehicle theft followed an assault on Ruckel Street, Cascade Locks, filed under Robbery - Car Jacking. Officials said it was an interaction between foster parents and child.
Kidnap — Aug. 24, an adult male was arrested on Portland Drive, Hood River, and lodged on kidnapping charges.
Alcohol — Aug. 27, Hood River deputies arrested an adult male for furnishing alcohol to a minor. In Hood River last week, a juvenile person was cited for curfew violation and possession of alcohol.
Eleven — mental health calls in The Dalles and Wasco County last week.
Burglaries — Burglary report at Hood River Public Storage, Aug. 28. Burglary at Hood River residence Sept. 1, inactive for lack of leads. The Dalles logged a burglary Sept. 7; Wasco County logged two last week.
More DUII arrests — Hood River police made four last week. One driver was arrested on charges of DUII - controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine and of fentanyl.
Thefts last week — Three in Hood River: E-bike, theft at Walmart (two). In one, officer charged a non-resident with shoplifting, driving while suspended and driving uninsured. The Dalles logged 12 thefts (five on W. Sixth) and two stolen cars on Court and E. Ninth streets. Wasco County logged five thefts plus at least one stolen vehicle.
Drugs — Hood River Police accepted a small amount of white crystalline substance from Indian Creek Village Apartments for discard. The Dalles police logged two drug incidents.
Critters — Hood River recorded a dog bit and a dog fight. The Dalles got 19 dogs and seven other animals; Wasco County nine dogs and three other animals.
Pursuits — down I-84 near milepost 82 on Sept. 9. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office also got involved. On Sept. 11, troopers helped Sherman County deputies pursue a silver Honda Civic on I-84 near milepost 100 westbound. They spiked the tires and multiple law enforcement agencies stopped the vehicle near milepost 83 after clocking it at 128 miles per hour. The driver was lodged on DUII charges.
Firearm — A lone Ford Mustang crashed on Threemile Road on Sept. 6. The intoxicated driver got minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. A firearm was found in the glovebox. The driver is charged with DUII, reckless driving, endangering another and unlawful possession of the firearm.
Two non-injury crashes — A single car blew a tire on Aug. 29, hitting a guardrail and landing a in dry creek by Hwy 197. OSP spotted the car on Sept. 5. A Dodge pickup swerved to avoid some deer on Sullivan Lane near Rufus Sept. 7, and the driver had to walk several miles with a damaged cellphone to report the crash.
Gone fishing — An angler was cited for keeping one Chinook over the daily limit, having measured the fish wrong. The Chinook was donated to a bird center. Another angler was cited for catching a salmon with the wrong license. And two people entered an area closed to fishing near Bonneville Hatchery at Tanner Creek, Sept. 10 and after two hours, emerged from darkness with bags of salmon. Both ran away on foot, abandoning the bags of illegally taken salmon. One was later cited and released; investigation ongoing.
Injury crash — A vehicle rolled at milepost 86 on US-26 on Sept. 9, landing on its top and blocking both lanes. Investigation showed the right tire entered the soft shoulder on a turn, pulling it toward the ditch. Two passengers had minor injuries, the driver a citation and the car’s roof heavy damage.
