Charges — May 25-31, Hood River police charged people with assault (one), driving suspended (one), failure to register as sex offender (one), resisting (one), theft (two), trespass (one) and warrant (two). On May 30-June 2, Oregon State Police charged people with assault (one), driving suspended (one), DUII (one), reckless driving (one) and restraining order violation (one).
Last month — In May, Hood River Sheriff’s Office charged people with assault (three), animal abuse (one), burglary (one), charge not logged (two), driving suspended (two), drug violation (one), DUII (five), harassment (one), minor in possession (one), mischief (one), trespass (one) and warrant (six).
Bike, firearm — May 25-31, Hood River police reported four thefts: Bicycle, shoplifting (two), and money from vehicle. Officers also took a report of a stolen firearm, found in the engine bay of a vehicle receiving maintenance. Separately, a missing firearm reported. Last week, The Dalles police reported seven thefts including fraud and unlawful use of a vehicle.
Assault arrest — Hood River officers arrested a Portland resident on charge of Assault IV between May 25-31. The person alleged mental health issues, and was assessed by a mental health professional and cited and released at a hospital. Separately, officers also detained a non-resident and transported them to the hospital on a police officer hold.
Other assaults — At least four assaults were reported in Hood River County in May.
Missing — A report of a juvenile who returned home with bruises on their neck after being missing for most of a day was forwarded to Hood River detectives for follow-up between May 25-31.
Various fenders bent — A non-injury crash was logged involving two vehicles near Hood River Distillers on May 26. Last week, The Dalles police logged three crashes on Washington, E. Second and Court; and Wasco County recorded a crash on Cherry Heights.
Drunk burglary — On May 4, an intoxicated person allegedly broke into Parkdale’s Lost Lake Resort store, “damaging windows and consuming alcohol.” The person was arrested without incident. Separately, a burglary was reported at Bridgeside by a burglary alarm. An arrest was made following a nuisance/burglary call in Odell May 11. And last week, burglary on Highway 30, reported at about 1:27 p.m. on May 30.
Train injury — Pedestrian and train collided on May 5 in Hood River County. The incident was closed as non-criminal.
Dog shot — An animal abuse report was taken May 5, when a German short-hair pointer was injured by gunshot in Hood River County. The log was closed by arrest. Separately, the possible physical and sexual abuse of two dogs was reported on May 27.
Eleven non-injury crashes — Reported in May by Hood River County deputies. Locations included Tucker/Orchard roads, Odell (two), Tucker/Brookside, Highway 35/Endow Drive, 13th/Belmont, I-84, not logged (two), and Odell Highway/Summit Drive. One crash damaged public property in an unidentified location on May 12.
Injury crash — One two-vehicle crash on Odell Highway, near Dethman Ridge Road, resulted in injury in May. No crimes recorded.
DUIIs in Hood River county — A single-car crash on May 22 near Thunder Island Brewing resulted in the driver being arrested for DUII. Separately, an adult driver was charged with DUII and unlawful possession of cocaine on May 29.
What? — On May 26, a deputy responded to a report of a male lighting their mattress on fire in Cascade Locks.
Six theft reports — In Hood River County this May: Old theft, pending follow-up, theft from vehicle at Government Cove, stolen vehicle in Parkdale, theft in Pine Grove, criminal mischief and theft from vehicle on Dock Road in Hood River. Meanwhile at Gorge Guns, a stolen gun was recovered on May 9. Also, there were two fraud reports and an identity theft report.
Two search-and-rescues — On May 2, a hiker fell from an embankment on Eagle Creek Trail. On May 9, someone was reported in distress near Bridge of the Gods; this was unfounded.
Hit-and-run — Three reports were taken in Hood River May 25-31. Last week, The Dalles police got two reports. Last month, Hood River deputies got three reports.
Bridge bang-up — A deputy responded to the Columbia River near Hood River Bridge after a barge hit a bridge support, causing minor damage. No injuries were reported.
An unattended death — at Best Western Columbia River Inn. There will be no criminal investigation.
Vandalism logs — Two last week in The Dalles; one on W. 12th on June 1, and E. 15th Place later the same day. Wasco County also logged vandalism on River Way Drive June 1.
Creatures — Last week, The Dalles police logged 11 dogs and three other animals. Wasco County got six animal calls, five about dogs.
Highway assault — A person was arrested by Oregon State troopers on charge of domestic assault after multiple callers reported a domestic assault that began in a The Dalles parking lot when someone entered a vehicle, and then moved down I-84.
Constructive — A driver was nabbed by state police for reckless driving after speeding 81 mph past employees in a Gilliam County construction zone on I-84. The pickup failed to yield at first, weaving back and forth in the lanes. The driver was evaluated for intoxication and then transported to a medical check before being lodged at NORCOR.
Flammable close call — Two non-injury crashes were reported by Oregon State police last week. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue and a trooper responded when a commercial tanker of flammable materials called to report hitting a passenger car on I-84 near milepost 94 westbound. The driver of the car said the semi changed lanes during their pass, forcing the car into the median; after reviewing side-view mirror footage, the trooper cited the semi. Later, a Salem resident got some sleep while eastbound on I-84 and drifted to the shoulder, over-correcting and smacking to a cable barrier.
