BINGEN — On June 16, Bingen restaurant, Murphy’s Family Watering Hole, will be hosting national media and marking company America’s Best Restaurants (ABR), to be featured on the ABR Roadshow, highlighting the restaurant’s popular dishes while also featuring interviews with owners Diane and Larry Murphy, discussing Murphy’s place in the Gorge community.
According to a press release, ABR’s focus is to bring attention to local, independently owned restaurants, and choose which restaurants to feature on the ABR Roadshow based on customer reviews, menu items, social media presence and level of involvement in their communities. Restaurants are brought to their attention through customer nominations.
Christi Morris, who nominated Murphy’s “raved about not only the food but the owners’ commitment to the community.
“They smoke their own meats [and] make amazing brisket and corned beef,” said the press release, quoting Morris’ nomination, “They are kind, donate time and food to local funerals and families in need, and are just overall kind humans.”
After a career in banking, Diane Murphy found herself operating Chips Bar and Grill in Bingen, which had to close temporarily during the pandemic due to social distancing restrictions. At that point, she opened Murphy’s Family Watering Hole, and now operates both restaurants.
Murphy, who is dedicated to serving “good food and generosity to the community,” is excited to showcase her restaurant, and honored to be on an episode of the ABR Roadshow. According to the press release, Murphy routinely donates food and has a pay-it-forward program on her menu, allowing patrons to purchase a meal for those in need.
“I just love serving the community. I love serving people; I love cooking,” Murphy said. “You know, even when I was a banker, I would make cakes for everybody. Birthday cakes, wedding cakes. It’s just something that I love to do.”
Serving a menu of barbecue staples, including burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads and daily specials, possible highlighted menu items for the ABR episode could include smoked mac and cheese, smoked corned beef and clam chowder.
The restaurant will be closed to the public during on June 16 from 9 a.m. – noon for filming. The episode airdate will be announced on the Murphy’s Family Watering Hole Facebook page, as well as on the America’s Best Restaurants’ website.
