CASCADE LOCKS — The City of Cascade Locks will hold its final interviews for city administrator on Friday, Sept. 4, and the public is invited to meet candidates Alexander Nelson and Ben Shumaker on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 7-8 p.m. at city hall, 140 SW WaNaPa St.
The following bios have been provided by the city:
Alexander Nelson has been assistant to the city manager at the City of Lafayette, Colorado, since January 2023. Prior to that, he was a management analyst at Arapahoe County, Colorado. He has also served as strategic communications and engagement coordinator for HDR, Inc., Portland, Oregon, and assistant planner for Harper Houf Peterson Righellis, Inc., Portland, Oregon. Nelson has a Master of Public Administration degree in Local Government Management from Portland State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Planning, Public Policy, and Management from the University of Oregon.
Ben Shumaker was most recently community development director for the City of Stevenson, from 2018-2025. He served the city for more than 17 years and was the planning director from 2008-2018. He also served as interim city Administrator/Community development director from October 2024 to May 2025. Shumaker has a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and two bachelor’s degrees, one in History and Sociology, and the other in International Studies and German, both from Louisiana State University.
