Community members helped raise critical funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during its Hood River Lock Up 2015, which took place on Thursday at Pietro’s Pizza.
Kyle Ellerbe and Wally David, MDA fundraising coordinators, said the event raised approximately $13,200, with over 40 volunteers “jailed.”
Money raised will fund treatments and cures, provide life-enhancing programs, and send kids with muscle disease to MDA summer camp, with 77 cents per dollar going directly to client services.
“The event was amazing,” said Ellerbe. “We had amazing support from local individuals.”
Off-duty firefighters with Hood River Fire and EMS “arrested” volunteers, driving them to and from Pietro’s, said Kip Miller, Hood River Fire and EMS volunteer coordinator. The volunteers then had to raise bail — donations for MDA — by calling family and friends. Pietro’s donated all the pizza and drinks enjoyed by volunteers.
“We want to thank the Hood River community for their support in helping send our local kids to MDA summer camp in Salem this coming July,” said David. “A big thanks to them from us.”
