Regulators in Washington have released a final environmental impact statement detailing the impact of a proposed coal terminal in Longview, Wash.
The Final EIS was issued in late April. The environmental study, which is not a permit for the project (and would not mean final approval or denial), responds to thousands of public comments made on the Draft EIS.
Millennium Bulk Terminals’ proposed coal export terminal in Cowlitz County along the Columbia River would handle up to 44 million tons of coal for export on ships to Asia.
“This comprehensive study is now a resource for future decision-makers, the public and Millennium,” said Sally Toteff, director of Washington Department of Ecology’s Southwest Region. “The study will inform local, state, and federal agencies that will be acting on Millennium's permit applications.”
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is expected to issue its own federal environmental impact statement on the coal-by-marine hub later this year.
