2. Josh Worth, 712 series (Fraternal league)
3. John Riggleman, 670 series (Fraternal league)
4. Bryan Mason, 667 series (Fraternal league)
5. Lynn Spellman, 653 series (Industrial league)
3,435 total pins
Monday Night Industrial (fourth week, round 2):
Clear Cutters are in first place with 77 points. The Crew is in second, 16 points behind the Cutters.
Last week’s match results: Clear Cutters chopped down Orchard Lanes 19-6 despite Carl Casey’s impressive efforts for the Lanes threesome. Carl spun a consistent 620 series on games of 210, 209 and 201 in the match, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Cutters won all three games and total by a slim margin of 2-48 pins. Court Barker led the Cutters with a 617 series capped with a 230 game.
Mt. Hood BBQ torched The Crew 18-7 and Hood River Supply did the same to Decavo, waxing them by 110 pins. Woody Eskildsen’s down-and-in game led the charge for Supply with 230 and 214 games, while his anchorman Aaron Troxel’s thumbless power ball stirred the sticks with 202 and 201 games.
Poor OL’7-10 was toppled by Triple T’s 16-9, even with Lynn Spellman’s typical down-and-in heroics for the 7-10 crew as he tallied a solid 653 series on games 0f 238, 213 and 202.
Despite the lopsided point totals, this contest was actually razor thin! Tyson Trout fashioned a timely 217 in his last game in which the T’s won by 45 pins, getting six points for the third game of the match. Then, adding up total-pins for the three games in the match, the T’s prevailed by a mere two pins! That gave the T’s another four points, by winning total pins. Had the T’s not prevailed so strongly in that third game, this match could have easily ended up 13-12 in favor of 7-10 if they had taken total pins. That shows how important a mere couple of pins can be.
Here’s another interesting outcome: Randy’s Painting beat Pat’s Pro Shop 17-8 even though Patrick Olson fired a big 733 series for the shop. How did the Painters overcome that? Well, Albert Frelix came through in the clutch for the painters with a mighty fine 643 series highlighted by a slick 258 game. Albert was nearly 100 pins over his average and that, folks, is the ticket to ride.
Tuesday Nite Mixed league (second half):
Last week was the first one in the second half of the league. Here are the match results from last week:
Split Faced, Team Nishi and C.P.R. swept their matches 4-0. Split Faced won easily over Who Gives a Split; Team Nishi had their way against Mad Skilz as Joey Sheirbon led Nishi with a 244 game and 640 set; and C.P.R. took the broom to Taco Tuesday behind the pin-busting of Steve Silva, who cranked off a 623 set including strike-filled 236 and 232 games.
Hood River Supply beat Gutter Dawgs 3-1.
High Scores last week:
Men: Who Gives a Split’s Patrick Olson, 701 series and 290 game.
Women: C.P.R.’s Sandy Holmes, 522 series and C.P.R.’s Coral Worth, 195 game.
Bowlers of the week: Take Ten’s Dawnell Espersen, 113 pins over average and Split Faced Steve Moore, 103 pins over average.
Wednesday afternoon Senior Colts & Fillies league (first half):
The final first half matches were conducted in the Senior league last week. The results were inconclusive as Rolling Pins and Cousins ended in a tie for first place with 42 wins each. The Seniors have long professed that they don’t care who wins because they simply love to bowl every week to see their friends and socialize. That’s a great attitude. Nevertheless, these two teams will compare total pins in their matches this week and the one with the bigger number will be awarded first place.
Notable scores last week:
Men: Gutt-er Done’s Rod Pratt, 215 game; Pins in Low Places’ Gordon Pillon, 213 game; Cousins’ Paul Dethman, 202 game; and Rice Krispies’ Lynn Spellman, 201 game.
Women: Gutt-er Done’s Sue Spellman, 533 series and 192 game.
Â
Wednesday night Fraternal league (fifth week, round 2):
Standings:
1. Mt. Hood BBQ, 82 points
2. Ten in the Pit, 73 points
Here are the match results from last week:
Hood River Athletic Club’s brawny Josh Worth muscled that speedy sphere of his to the tune of a glitzy 712 series capped by big 269 and 242 games as they cooked Get Hu’sum BBQ 24-1; Washington orchardist John Riggleman plucked a bushel of pins against Tres Psicos, rolling solid 254 and 235 games in a 670 series to lead his BBQ-ers to a 22-3 wipe out of Tres Psicos. And how about the Red Rockets? They really faced adversity as they bowled against the intimidating Orchard Lanes three led by Patrick Olson, who has been a strike machine lately, rolling his third 700 of the week — a fine 717 series — at them, including a near perfect 279 game.
So, what did the Red Rockets do against this onslaught? Well, here’s a testament to never giving up: Red Rockets Josue Chavarria fired a nice 225 game, teammate James Youtsey kicked in a 223 game and their avid bowling anchorman Octavio Campos added a 200 game to the battle. When the smoke cleared, Red Rockets had beat the imposing Orchard Lanes gang 13-12! Great bowling guys.
Other notable scores last week:
Bloom Auto Body’s Bryan Mason, 667 series and 236 game.
Bowler of the week: John Riggleman, 127 pins over average.
Thursday afternoon County league (ninth week, first half):
1. The not so Blind Bowlers, 24 wins
2. Lady Bowlers, 23 wins
There are two weeks to go in the first half of the league. Here are the match results from last week:
All but one match ended 3-1; Lady Bowlers beat Blind Bowlers; Save the Pins manhandled The Munsons; Over the Line fouled The Flu Fighters; Holy Rollers plunked The Gutter Balls; Yoyo Cervantes led his Incredibowls with a nifty 224 game that overwhelmed The Unbowlievables.
The BS-ers’ Victor Flores rolled a fine 600 series that included two 215 games, forging a 2-2 split with Stop, Drop and Bowl.
Happy Holidays everyone, let’s all celebrate by going BOWLING!
