Immigration Counseling Service (ICS), a not-for-profit immigration law firm based in Portland, announces the opening of a new regional office in Hood River, located in the Union Building at 216 Columbia St.
ICS has been providing affordable immigration legal services to Oregon and southwestern Washington immigrant communities for almost 40 years.
By opening a regional office in Hood River, eastern Oregon communities, such as Bend, Boardman, The Dalles, Hermiston, Madras, Milton-Freewater, Pendleton, Prineville and Umatilla will have more access to quality, low cost immigration legal services.
The ICS office will hold an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on April 20.
ICS specializes in humanitarian and family-based immigration law, such as asylum, visas for victims of serious crimes, Victims And Women Act (VAWA) for victims of domestic violence, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), family petitions, adjustments, consular processing and naturalization. ICS also assists unaccompanied immigrant children.
DACA is an American immigration policy that allows certain undocumented immigrants who entered the country before their 16th birthday and before June 2007 to receive a renewable two-year work permit and exemption from deportation.
More recently, the ICS mission has expanded to include work with unaccompanied children and survivors of human trafficking.
“ICS’s increased involvement in outreach activities these past couple of years have made the agency painfully aware of the service differences between the greater Portland/Salem areas and the rest of the state,” said Barbara B. Babcock, executive director.
“The need for low cost immigration services in some of the outlying areas is acute,” she said.
