Photo courtesy City of Hood RiverHOOD RIVER — After discussions at two consecutive meetings, Hood River City Council unanimously passed a resolution reaffirming “commitment to inclusivity and creating a welcoming environment for all community members.”
The city stated that these discussions took place due to growing concerns about federal immigration policies.
Entitled “Resolution 2025-06: Resolution Affirming the City of Hood River as an Inclusive and Welcoming City,” this formal statement supports the immigrant community and endorses women’s rights, religious rights, and LGBTQ rights. It also reaffirms the state’s sanctuary laws which forbid local law enforcement from utilizing resources to enforce federal immigration laws.
Though resolutions are not law-binding, they reflect the values of city council. Council committed itself to actions that will foster “an atmosphere of safety, acceptance, and belonging” for all people. The resolution further states the need to “nurture a culture of trust between city government, immigrants, and communities of color so all residents feel safe in their own neighborhoods.”
Council also requested annual reports on actions that advance inclusion in Hood River.
