HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Fashion Show returns to the Gorge on Nov. 15 after 11 years to fundraise for a local family, whose son was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.
Local merchants from Bingen, White Salmon, Hood River, and The Dalles, along with Jen Dillard Real Estate and other organizers, have all come together to create “a big, wonderful party,” said organizer Cathy Carter. Carter ran this fundraiser for 20 years to support the Christmas Project before retiring. Because this project is so important to her and other organizers, Carter came out of retirement to make this happen. Carter, Jen Dillard and Gavin McAlpine will be emceeing the event.
Hannah Hulett and Benji Mahaffy learned in July that their 2-year-old son Graham has Leukemia. Since that diagnosis, the Hulett-Mahaffy family has been making the trip from the Gorge to Portland, where Graham is receiving care at Randall Children’s Hospital, but the roads are unpredictable, and both parents need to be close to their child.
This fundraiser is going toward helping the Hulett-Mahaffy family find housing close to the hospital so Graham can get the best care possible.
The fashion show takes place at the Best Western Plus Hood River Inn on Nov. 15. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m.
“It’s just a really fun night showing off great fashion,” said Carter. “The atmosphere is very fun. Some do full dance routines some just do the modeling, but it’s great music, [and] great energy.”
Auction items will be available to bid on as well including artwork, $500 worth of La Mer products, and a $100 gift card to Parts and Labor.
The organizers and businesses involved are so passionate about making this night successful for the family and making sure they get the help they need. The Hulett-Mahaffys can also be supported through their gofundme at gofund.me/56ad6ee8.
