Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Steven Earl Baldwin, 74, passed away peacefully at his home in The Dalles, Oregon, on Jan. 21, 2026.
Born in The Dalles to Earl and Arlene Baldwin (O’Connor), he graduated from The Dalles High School with the class of 1969 and Western Oregon University in 1973. Steve was a devoted rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in The Dalles for more than 30 years and also owned/operated Meader Septic Tank Service for a portion of those years. Most days since retirement, he could be found sitting with “the boys” at The Barbecue or relaxing at home with an old western on TV.
He was known for his love and knowledge of classic Chevys, participating in local drag racing, boating on the Columbia River, farming, and raising beef. He was a loyal, intelligent, witty, clever, loving father, friend, and the best grandfather who shared his passion for all things with 4-speeds on wheels with his grandchildren.
He is survived by children, Jaime (Sebastian), James, Janelle, and Jacob; 11 grandchildren, Shane, Josslyn, Trent, Matthew, Jane, Logan, Jacy, Conner, Lilly, Evelyn, and August; great-granddaughter Charlotte; brother Scott; nephews Michael and Jeffery; and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by father Earl (1971), stepfather Matthew “Sweede” O’Connor (2010), daughter Jennifer (Jesse) O’Hara (2017), and mother Arlene (2017).
Celebration of life will be held on March 27 from 1-5 p.m. (open-house-style), at The Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge No. 2126 in The Dalles. His family looks forward to sharing stories and salutations in his memory with you then.
