The Hood River Fire Department plans to conduct live fire training on the house located at 906 22nd St. on Saturday, starting at 7 a.m.
The purpose of this exercise is to provide training to its new firefighters on how fire behaves inside a structure. The training should be completed and the house should be completely burned to the ground by noon.
“A live-fire exercise is the best type of training that we can provide your firefighters,” said department volunteer coordinator Kip Miller.
This exercise will be controlled. The department has planned additional resources to help ensure that this drill is conducted safely; both for fire personnel, and the safety and property protection of others.
Fire officials will monitor the wind conditions and the effect that this exercise may have on the residents in the area. The department requests that neighbors keep windows closed during the exercise, and to notify them if smoke is getting into your home. A fire department officer will be at the burn location until the fire is completely extinguished. The owner of the property intends to have the site cleaned up in a timely manner.
