Excavator jaws bite into Hood River Expo Center on the waterfront. Demolition began Thursday on the project, which will floor the former event building on Portway Avenue to pave way for two smaller light industrial buildings by local company Key Development. Moses Schneider, Crestline Construction foreman, said workers are “chewing” into the walls 50-foot piece by piece so the roof doesn’t collapse. Crews will salvage whatever metal, wood, and fill materials they can save.
