HOOD RIVER — Big River Community Land Trust (Big River CLT) celebrated a major milestone on April 24 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first completed home on Tucker Road. The ribbon cutting represents the realization of Big River CLT’s mission to expand affordable for-purchase housing options and preserve long-term community stability through the community land trust model.
The event brought community leaders, public officials, and supporters together to commemorate the occasion, including members of the Hood River City Council and staff, Hood River County Commissioners and staff, a member of the White Salmon City Council, Big River CLT board members, the organization’s executive director, and the new homeowner, said a press release.
“This first home is more than a house — it represents the power of partnership, community vision, and our commitment to making homeownership accessible for local residents,” said Big River CLT Executive Director Alysha Sherburne. “We are grateful to everyone who helped make this milestone possible.”
The completion of Big River CLT’s first home marks the beginning of broader efforts to create lasting housing opportunities for residents throughout the region. Big River CLT is in the planning process to build as many as 42 affordable homes for purchase on the Heights in Hood River, said the press release.
